PHOTOSHOP REFLECTION

9:28 AM

The past few weeks I have developed new skills in photoshop. By watching several video tutorials I have mastered use of tools such as the quick selection tool, clipping masks, and the clone stamp tool. In the first couple of projects I used the quick selection tool to remove backgrounds that didn't work with the image.  The quick selection tool is important to remove problomatic areas and photoshop will automatically replace the are with a similar background. I also used the clone stamp tool to remove specific areas by covering it with a specific selection of an image.

The clone stamp tool and the quick selection tool were very helpful in removing imperfections  and unnecessary elements of a photo.  The image to the left originally had specs of dirt all along the boys face, but with the help of these two tools I was able to quickly and effectively remove them to make a more clean looking photo.

The last tool we learned to use was clipping masks. Clipping masks allow you to edit a specific area of a photo. In the challenge project I used clipping masks to overlay images over the man in the photo on the right. After I placed my selected image on top of the man I made a clipping mask that allowed me to erase all parts of the new image that didn't cover the areas I wanted. For example, I used an image of roots over the neck and had to remove the excess parts of the image so only the neck area would show this image.  Clipping masks are probably one of my favorite tools in photoshops and my favorite skill I learned. Clipping masks are a simple way to make any photo look more interesting and add cool effects.

A weakness I struggled with was using the patch tool to remove an image from a t-shirt. It was difficult for me to make the t-shirt not look different after removing the image. There is still a lighter part on the shirt and I still need to work to become more familiar with the patch tool in future projects.

One of my strengths was with the clone stamp tool in removing a tag from this coat. It was very easy for me to find areas of the jacket to cover the tag with. I was able to fix the texture and adjust the opacity to make the coat look as if there was never a tag before.

If I was to complete anything differently it would be on the bottle project. I like how the bottle turned out but I would make the shadow a lot softer so that it isn't so sharp. The dark shadow and sharp lines draws our attention away from the bottle and to the shadow. I would also make the light from behind a little brighter so that it stands out more.

On this project I would complete it in a very similar way. By moving the logo up it makes the surfboard more interesting and the black text really draws our attention to it. The quick selection tool made completing this project and similar ones very simple and showed great results.

In conclusion, the projects I have completed in the past few days have helped develop my skills in photoshop and have taught me several new skills. I have become a lot more confident with the tools in photoshop and have a larger understanding of the functions of several tools. The tutorials have helped me learn the correct way to use these tools and in the future I can be more successful in projects. I feel that I could complete projects without much guidance now that I have used photoshop several times now.
